This powerful image is from one of the memorials last night for 16-year-old Maren Sanchez.
Maren was stabbed to death in her high school stairwell on the morning of the prom. She was killed for allegedly turning down a young man’s invitation to be her prom date.
Her classmates paid tribute by dressing up, and bringing out the gown she would have worn to the prom. Even though this memorial was a sorrowful and traumatic event, the students smiled through their tears for the camera because… Maren would have wanted them to be happy on their prom night.
I grew up in Milford, CT, and I live about 15 minutes away from Jonathan Law High School. My partner attended JLHS and I have friends with family members who currently attend.
With the Sandy Hook shooting in December 2012, I can’t believe that here we are again, just a year later, with another tragedy in a Connecticut school.
My heart goes out to all of those affected.

Sharing memorial images for a young woman that never should have died.

She was killed for allegedly turning down a young man’s invitation to be her prom date.
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? YOUNG GIRLS GETTING FUCKING KILLED BECAUSE MEN CAN’T HANDLE REJECTION.
FUCK THIS WORLD.

I don’t think it’s fair to blame this on all men, or any men except for the one person who did it. This is a horrifying tragedy and my heart goes out to the young woman’s family and friends, but I can only assume that the guy who killed her was mentally deranged. I’m a big feminist, but I don’t think we can chalk this up to sexism. No one in their right mind stabs someone to death for not going to prom with them. If you want a social issue to blame it on, blame it on our society’s failure to provide proper mental health care to our young teenagers and other troubled youth.

Don’t you dare blame this on mental illness. Don’t you dare further stigmatize mental illness because you are unwilling to accept that our society creates an environment where violence against women is the norm.
Maren Sanchez is dead because of male entitlement. It’s the same reason thousands of women are dead, killed by men who believed, “If I can’t have her, no one can.”
Mass media and society at large treats women as objects instead of autonomous human beings. And treating women as objects instead of people leads to the idea that we are property, that we are things. It dehumanizes us. And when we lose our humanity, it’s much easier to justify killing us.
Violence against women is a men’s issue.
So don’t you dare blame this on mental illness. Violence against women is commonplace in our society, but when it makes news headlines like this, people are quick to say, “Oh, this man was mentally unstable. This was an isolated incident.” It’s not isolated and mental illness is not to blame.
Shame on you for using the “mentally unstable" excuse, as if it’s not already stigmatized enough. Shame on you.

This is what I don’t get about you lot. Is it impossible to have been caused by both? Are the two option seriously that irreconcilable that they could not have both bled into the causes of this awful, awful tragedy?
According to you, school shootings and the like would be caused exclusively by Male Privilege and MUH PATRIARCHY, right? Yeah, you can’t blame this kind of stuff on a person having a history of mental issues, because mental issues, hormone imbalances, and brain tumors have never led to murder, but you can totally blame ALL MEN for this single isolated incident, citing Patriarchy and Media Manipulation as the cause.
It doesn’t matter if it’s stigmatized, if there’s a direct correlation, it needs to be examined. Do you not understand how disgustingly you are acting? You have co-opted a young girl’s death to stand on your soapbox and yell about the conspiracy to keep you down. A little further, and you might need to wear a tinfoil hat and start handing out papers about the Illuminati.
Yeah. Men are bad. Not crazy, knife wielding psychopaths. God damn this website makes me sick.

AND FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER IN CINEMA HISTORY AN AMERICAN MADE MOVIE SWAPS FANATICAL PATRIOTISM FOR BASIC HUMAN DECENCY EVEN THOUGH THE MOVIE ITSELF IS CALLED CAPTAIN AMERICA AND IT DOESN’T GET ANY MORE PATRIOTIC THAN THAT BUT MARVEL CHOSE A DIFFERENT PATH AND I’M THANKFUL FOR THAT pardon my capslock

and in a fantastic plot twist, the answer was not to nuke the enemy

Patriotism doesn’t mean blindness. A patriot fights for the virtues of his country, and the virtues Steve here fights for are truth and justice, the American way. Too often do idiots on both ends of the spectrum claim patriotism, which often influences outside opinions on Americans themselves.

Steve Rogers fights for mercy and compassion. He represents the America that isn’t a stereotype; an America where people fight for what is correct, where war and violence are not always the immediate answers.

Marvel didn’t choose a different path than patriotism. It stuck with 50 years of source material and chose the correct definition.

FROM ME TO YOU:

Please stop all this hate.

We aren’t like your oppressors.

We want to help.

Let us.

Don’t push us away.

There are so many more friendships to be made.

Please.

"we aren’t like the bad guys" "let us" "don’t push us away"

this sounds threatening and shitty and this whole post is shit and you are shit and there is shit everywhere

What the fuck is this bullshit.

"Tumblr made me pretend I was gender fluid to fit in" like what the fuck kind of asshat shit message is that.

OP can GDIAF.

in case anyone at all is wondering why we are always so pissed about “allies”

she doesn’t even address why she shouldn’t be grouped with our oppressors? and like she doesn’t address any of her main points, just says some shit defending herself, and then says ‘we love you all / please don’t hate us’ yeah right man now we’re totally in love with someone who previously fetishised and tried to label herself as genderfluid to “fit in.”

so instead of researching on how to not be an awful ally, or why people ‘group the oppressors” OR even why fetishising and pretending to be genderfluid is horrifically destructive, OP decided to waste their time on this dumbass comic. I literally hate you

bolded the last part cause op you fucked up

Bolded everything because YOU guys fucked up.

"weh cis white straight people can’t understand us" "lol you labeled yourself as genderfluid to fit in ur such trash"

did you ever stop and think that, MAYBE the ones that are trash are you people, who act nice and supportive but then do shit like this? I don’t even care if i lose followers over this, but all of the bolded stuff is BS and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

you people, some of you anyway, are idiots. instead of maybe being happy that someone is trying, you’re sitting here being morons and assholes to someone that had good intentions. was it right of OP to pretend to be genderfluid to fit in? not really, but you know what? considering how 99.9% of tumblr is, I can totally understand it.

a lot of you people pretend to be all “omg we’re totally for everyone” and “we’re all such good people” but despite that, a lot of you are hypocrites.

you claim to be nice and supportive of everyone, but the truth of the matter is, you’re NOT.

unless someone is gay, bi, trans, genderfluid, or anything that is not straight/cis/white, most of tumblr doesn’t give a shit and thinks the person is stupid and uninformed and you know what? they are uninformed because the only information they get is delivered to them in this way and they’re constantly told that, no matter what, they’re the bad guy just because of how they are.

ever stop and think that this is exactly how the right-wingers view US? we are demonized by rightwingers because they don’t like our way of life, and they are constantly saying we’re the bad guys. let in soak in that all of you are no different than the people that try and oppress us.

I hope that makes you all feel real good about yourselves.

Bashing someone for their views and hopes regarding the hate on tumblr is moronic, and all of you should be trying to be helpful towards people that don’t fully understand the things they’re talking about.

And if the tumblr mentality wasn’t so strong with the rebloggers of this post, maybe OP wouldn’t have felt like they needed to pretend to be something they aren’t just so they could have friends on tumblr.

i was so distressed and upset at all the commentary until i got to the last comment thank you friend we need more ppl like you in the world

Oh god bless the person calling you shitty fucks out thanks for making the LGBT* community look like shit as per usual you complete lunatics. I’m literally embarrassed to be in it sometimes because of you.

No OP. You can’t help your circumstance. It’s okay. Many of us DON’T think less of you for it - nor for exploring your identity, even if it’s just because of peer pressure.

I agree that the labelling and the fighting is bad…

…but then also people who are white, people who are cis-gendered and people who are straight also HAVE TO RECOGNIZE that their position, the position they were born into, carries a certain privilege, whether visible and invisible. That privilege wasn’t their choice, but it’s there, and there is a fuckton of baggage that goes along with it, including histories of oppression.

So no, you’re not automatically PERSONALLY an oppressor for having been born white/cis/straight, but you are born with privileges that have been used to oppress people without those privileges, and you must have the understanding and responsibility to use them right and not against anyone… and, if you want to be a stellar human, help those who aren’t in your position of automatic born-with-it power.

Thanks.

Wait wait wait.

You’re saying that white people, as a race, no matter the conditions of their birth and their lives, carry a certain attribute that is either visible or invisible due to the color of their skin, and that actions committed by those in the past make them oppressors, once removed.

How is that not racism? Don’t give me that “Power+Privilege” bullshit, that’s racism, clear and simple. As a POC, what you have just said is personally offensive, that because I am not white, I cannot have the same position and the same platform as someone who is.

Personally, I understand the OP. On a website where POCs and LGBTQIAZGRMNwhatever-it-is-now people are worshipped to the point of fetishization and anybody who doesn’t fit in (the Minority) is promptly and swiftly told to fuck off, it’s no wonder that somebody would wish that they could fit into the majority, if not just to remove themselves from discrimination.

I signed up for this website because I thought it was about appreciating individuality, not trying to declare yourself the most unique snowflake on the planet. I never thought that my race would have to precede my argument for fear of getting called a “White CisHet” and having it dismissed for “Privilege”. Tumblr used to be about a bunch of people sharing mutual interests, or blogging about their lives, but this wave of anger towards whites and heterosexuals and Cisgendered people (a term which I completely abhor) is damning to the community and entirely inescapable.

Good job, you rabid lunatics.

The final theatrical trailer for Pacific Rim that’s just been released before the Fourth of July weekend. Come on guys let’s get the word out there that this movie is going to ROCK, otherwise Grown Ups 2 will win and the world will explode. via YouTube.

I AM SO PSYCHED FOR THIS MOVIE

I was just talking the other day about how the marketing for this movie is split pretty definitively between HOLY SHIT GIANT ROBOTS or ~*sensitive men looking earnest*~ like they’re trying to attract two completely different audiences and haven’t figured out how to reconcile the two.

anyway this trailer is a perfect mixture of both and I am so pumped for this movie, both the giant robots AND the sensitive men.

Can this do well please?
